On Fashion Photography gathers more than 300 images from forty years of Lindbergh's career, tracing his cinematic inflections and humanist approach — images at once seductive and introspective. His collaborations spanned the most venerated names in fashion — Azzedine Alaïa, Giorgio Armani, Karl Lagerfeld, Yves Saint Laurent, and Yohji Yamamoto among them — while his portraits of Cate Blanchett, Nicole Kidman, Madonna, and Catherine Deneuve prove that it was never the clothes or the glamour that took centre stage. It was always the person.

The book features an updated introduction adapted from a 2016 interview with Lindbergh, in which he recounts his early collaborations, the tenuous relationship between commercial and fine art, and his belief in the power of storytelling. Widely considered perhaps the most iconic fashion photography book ever published.

Lindbergh (1944–2019) shot the first American Vogue cover under Anna Wintour, and his work has been exhibited at the Hamburger Bahnhof, the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts, and the Kunstpalast in Düsseldorf.
